South Indian Women are crazy about Tamarind Rice. Nothing can beat the hot tamarind rice thats given in the Nanganallur Anjaneya Temple. Anyone who has tasted it will agree with me. Here is a recipe for Tamarind Rice.
Ingredients
Tamarind - Lemon size
Turmeric Powder - a Pinch
Curry leaves - 1 strand
Oil
Salt to taste
Saute & Grind
Bengal Gram - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Dhaniya - 2tsp
Til seeds - 1/4 tsp
Asafoetida - to taste
Red Chillies - 5-6nos
Methi - 1/4 tsp
Saute all the above items with a little oil. Saute til seperately without oil. Grind everything into a powder. Now make tamarind juice and add turmeric powder and salt to it.
Heat the pan and add oil generously. Now saute mustard seeds, urad dal, Bengal gram, peanuts. Once that is done add the tamarind juice and bring it to boil. when it is boiling add the powder that we prepared and add curry leaves to it. The tamarind paste will start thickening and the oil will start seperating. This is the time we know that our tamarind rice mix is ready to taste.....
